Brighton Twp. Vol. Fire Department

Station 63 ~ Fire - Rescue - QRS

The future of the BTVFD...

New volunteers are always welcome

The Brighton Township Volunteer Fire Department is a department rich with pride and history. Its future, and the future of all volunteer organizations, rests with you. The number of trained volunteers in many communities has grown perilously low. Unfortunately in many of today's suburban communities, people either don't have the time or simply aren't aware of local volunteer emergency services. Most of today's suburbanites were yesterday's city dwellers, and when they pick up the phone, they expect immediate service. Little do they know that each time they hear the echo of sirens through the streets, it often means another missed meal, birthday, or evening with the family for their local firefighters.

To get straight to the point, your local volunteer fire department needs your help. All too often it's the same individuals who year after year fight the hidden wars to save lives and property. Unfortunately, time and the rigors of the profession eventually take their toll on these brave citizens, and new community heroes must be found. That's where you come in...

Yes, the training can be difficult, both physically and mentally. Yes, there are times when you will be faced with life or death situations. Yes, the job is dangerous and requires an individual of strong moral fiber. Yes, it requires a tremendous amount of time and dedication to eventually become a productive member of a firefighting force. However, despite all of this, the rewards far outweigh any negatives. It may be impossible to put into words what it truly means to be a firefighter. It is an incredible, life changing experience for those who have chosen to devote themselves. Unlike most other professions, and certainly unlike any other volunteer opportunity, when you become a firefighter, you become part of a brotherhood whose life spans over centuries. To make any attempt to put into writing the rewards and satisfaction one can gain from joining the fire and rescue family would certainly fall well short of its intention.

Certainly, not everyone is made to be a firefighter. That's OK, we STILL need your help. There are numerous roles to be filled in an organization as diverse as a fire department. We are always looking for people to fill administrative and support positions. Lastly, if you don't have time to volunteer, please support the local department when they hold a fund raiser. Typically, any tax support we receive is minimal compared to our overall operating expenses, and just think about how much money your local volunteer fire department SAVES you. If the time ever comes when there are no longer enough volunteers to properly staff the local fire department, you will wish you gave more time and money when the local tax collector comes knocking on your door to finance a paid fire department. Please, contact your local volunteer fire department and ask how you can help. Our future depends on you.
