Station 63 ~ Fire - Rescue - QRS

History of Station 63

On June 29, 1940 a meeting was held to discuss the possibility of a volunteer fire department in the Township of Brighton. After a long discussion with the fire chiefs from the City of Beaver Falls, Center Township and Patterson Township a fire company was formed.  Twenty-two men from the township enlisted to be the first members of the newly formed Brighton Township Volunteer Fire Department.  The first elections were held on June 29, 1940 to elect business officers of the department.  Al Buckley was elected as the first president with Ben Grove elected as vice president.

On November 19, 1940 the BTVFD voted to purchase two fire trucks from Patterson Township for $500.00.  On December 17, 1940 the first line officers were elected into office with Ben Grove being selected as the first fire chief, serving from 1940 until 1941.
