QRS
In 2003, the Brighton Township Volunteer Fire Department started running a Quick Response Service. In February 2007 we received our Quick Response Service Certification from the PA Department of Health (PA DOH). With this certification, we are state recognized to provide Basic Life Support to our community. We currently have 3 vehicles certified to respond to medical calls that are dispatched by the 911 center. This means when a Ambulance is dispatched on a high priority call, our QRS is also dispatched. We have to be re-certified every 3 years to make sure we continue to meet the standards that are set forth by the Department of Health.
We work very closely with UMPC Mercy, who is our medical command facility. UPMC Mercy is the only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center in the region with a comprehensive burn center under the same roof. Based in the city of Pittsburgh, UPMC Mercy over sees all of the fire department's, medical personnel making sure all members are properly trained and stay up to date with the latest and greatest medical information and training.

Our PA DOH liaison is the Emergency Medical Services Institute (EMSI). Click on either of these links, EMSI and PA DOH to check out the home pages of our local and state level EMS authorities.
Brighton Township Volunteer Fire Department reminds you that smoke alarms can save
your life, but only if they're used and maintained properly. What can you do?
♦Test your smoke alarm monthly by pushing the test button provided on the smoke alarm. If it's not working properly, change the batteries and test it again. If it's still not working, replace it with a new smoke alarm.
♦ Make certain that smoke alarms are installed outside the door of each bedroom in your home. Modern building codes in most municipalities require this placement, but older homes may have been built without smoke alarms.
♦Replace the batteries in the smoke alarm twice a year. The BTVFD recommends you do so each time you change your clocks for Eastern Time and Daylight Savings Time, once the in the spring and once in the fall. Just remember the phrase "change your clocks, change your batteries."
